are missing right now. the iranians say the scan eagle drone as they call it flu flew into its airspace. iranians claim this is the video evidence. they reveal how they quote the video or captured the drone. iranian regime made similar claims regarding the stealth zone still unclear when it captured it or crash landed on iranian territory. either way the new drone is said to be far less sophisticated. the pentagon points out several countries used the scan eagle so theoretically it could be almost anybody's. david lee miller is live in jerusalem. david lee? >> that's right, shepard, the u.s. navy says two of iran's neighbors the uae the united arab emirates as well as kuwait have scan eagle drones. it's very possible the drone that iran is claiming to have in its possession could have come from somewhere in the neighborhood. so, as of now at this hour, there is still a mystery as to where this drone came from. the u.s. says that all its drones in the region have been accounted for. in the past year they have been lost in the water. it happened as early as october. it came apart on impac

they say is a scan eagle drone made by boeing iran says the drone was spying and the iranian navy brought it down hacking into electronics. the u.s. navy says it's not missing a drone in the middle east. i'm joined by elise in washington. first u.s. far from the only country to possess drones neen that part of the world, multiple countries do. could the aircraft belong to someone else? >> well, certainly, michael. the u.s. says none of its drones are missing and it follows it could belong to someone else. the united states has identify the 76 countries that use this type of drone country and many u.s. allies in the persian gulf are also using it. but it's unclear how iran got a hold of it anyway. it's possible that it got lost or it had a mechanical failure. it's not clear that it shot down. >> exactly. one of the questions that's been asked, and they've claimed to have done this before, in fact this announcement comes a day to the -- a year to the day after iran claimed to have shot down another u.s. drone and they say that one crashed in the iranian desert. >> that's right. it's a great

and kuwait. iran did not say when or where it captured the scan eagle just that it entered iranian air space. we don't have a lot of information besides that. we do know that the navy did lose one of these scan eagle drones back in october, but naval officials say that it went down in the persian gulf, that it broke apart as these drones are designed to do, and that they believe it sank into the persian gulf. jenna. jenna: so, if the iranians do indeed have this unmanned aerial vehicle, what type of information can they get from it? >> reporter: it's a low-cost, low tech drone. basically it's a camera that can transmit pictures via radio waves. it is possible the iranians can get information about what the drone was trying to look at based on its location. that's about it. it's not as nearly sophisticated as the cia drone that went down in iran hr-s year. yo last year. you may remember that video, it had stealth technology and it was kau captured almost intact. the u.s. asked for that drone back and they released pictures of iranian sty inch 'tises studying it. this scan eagle is much less s

prized pieces of intelligence, something called a scan eagle. iran says it was brought down by anti-aircraft squads in iranian air space. there's no visible damage in the pictures that aired today on iranian tv, and, again, the u.s. navy, which patrols the persian gulf constantly, says all ever its drones are currently accounted for. it also says its drones stay in international air space. joining me now with his insights and expertise is jim walsh. jim, first and foremost, look, it may very well be someone else's drone. i'll get to that in a moment. but when we say we only patrol in international air space, do we really only patrol in international air space? >> well, the first thing to know about that ashleigh, is international air space is highly contested. different countries draw the maps in different ways. and so you can be in a spot in the air where one country claims it's in international air space and another country claims it's in their national air space. it's sort of a fudge word, and we've had this before. this is not the first time we've had this dispute. we've had dro
